This space features ceiling fans to help maintain air flow and control consistent temperatures within the space.
West Austin Garage Renovation
The request for this project was to renovate a currently existing detached garage to serve as a studio apartment.
The intent was to create a space that would be marketable to a young adult or young couple who may be going to a local university or starting an entry level job in the area. It was assumed that a primary mode of transportation would be biking.
The concept of this design is "convertible comfort' where the design decisions reflect consideration for desired amenities, most efficient use of space, and allowances for flexibility and customization.
CUSTOM ROOM DIVIDER
A custom room partition was design to house a rotating television, with a n artwork piece on the reverse side. On either side the partition will features built in shelving for display and storage. This component is anchored by the structural column that existed within the space.
A swedish design circular kitchen was selected as an innovative solution for this project as the potential renters are expected to have an active, busy lifestyle and will not frequently cook at home.
A three panel partition wall is utilized to allow privacy to the bedroom area, or to slide them aside to provide an open studio style arrangement.
For the purpose of flexibility, a fold down murphy bed was selected to allow for the opportunity to use the space for entertaining when desired
The bathroom was designed to have two entrances, on private from the dressing area, and the other public. The multiple partitions allow for multiple users to occupy portions of the bathroom simultaneously while maintaining a sense of privacy.
An existing garage door was kept and update with new panels to provide daylight into the living space, and allow for open are living during the spring and fall given the temperate climate in Austin.
