HOT ROD PIZZA
The clients looking to invest in this redevelopment project expressed an interest in maintaining the character of the existing gas station garage building, and incorporating the idea of a "hot rod" as part of the design aesthetic.
The concept is based on the American Family Roadtrip, and the experience of the journey a road trip takes. Inspiration was drawn from American cars appropriate to the historical period of the structure, as well as a graphic map of the city of Austin, which was interpreted through the circulation path arrangement.
Commercial Studio: Spring 2014
Client: Business Investment Partners
Location: East Austin
Brick Patio Border
The circulation definition is continued outdoors on the back patio with a brick border that interlocks at intersections, defining the circulation pathway & gathering spaces.
Drive Up Service
The kitchen is strategically located on this side of the building to take advantage of the secondary ally traffic path. This allows for a drive up service window for to-go orders.
Accommodations for a bike rack on the primary traffic route were made to service the large population in Austin that utilizes bike transportation.
One existing overhead door was kept and modified with a modern glass panel enclosure. The other overhead door was utilized to install a set of entry & exit doors.
